Merkur, též Mercurius,
je v římské mytologii bůh obchodu, zisku, cestování a je také poslem bohů. Jeho protějškem a vzorem v řecké mytologii je Hermés. Je synem Máie a Iova. Jako posel bohů vlastní okřídlené boty. Alchymisté přiřazovali boha Merkura spolu s planetou Merkur ke rtuti. Rtuť se latinsky řekne mercurius.
Mercury
is a major Roman god, being one of the Dii Consentes within the ancient Roman pantheon. He is the patron god of financial gain, commerce, eloquence (and thus poetry), messages/communication (including divination), travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery and thieves; he is also the guide of souls to the underworld.
